Air Combat was originally an arcade game released in 1993, but the port was scrapped and a new game was made using the same name. Tearaway is also references in the PlayStation Labo area, where it’s on the PlayStation Vita Game Pack artwork, and the Vita itself will boot to “Botaway” if you hit it. The same as the previous artefact, but specifically designed to be held by a right hand!

They’re cut-outs because all the characters were 2D in their games. After the melting snow platform section down the river, on the right side you can see two Bots by a door with a Bot further on in a lab coat. This refers to 1996’s Resident Evil on the PS1, developed by Capcom. HM88 are Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, while the lab coat Bot is series villain Albert Wesker. The door is a reference to show the game hid loading times, by showing a shot of a door opening to disguise the load between rooms.
Astro & his crew lead you into a magical introduction through the PlayStation®5! In this fun platformer, explore 4 worlds based on the console’s components. Each area showcases innovative gameplay using the new features of the PS5 DualSense™ wireless controller.
Rescuing all the Special Bots not only unlocks the corresponding trophies but also adds them to the CPU Plaza, where they can be admired and interacted with. Gold trophies often require numerous attempts and a willingness to learn from mistakes. By maintaining a positive attitude, embracing the challenge, and refining your skills, you can achieve these prestigious awards and solidify your status as a true Astro’s Playroom master. Puzzle Piece 4/4 – When going down the section where you are blown by two clouds, make sure to stick to the right after the second cloud to get bounced to this puzzle piece.
But in the midst of all that history, Astro feels like an adorably fresh face; I’m glad to see the character break out of the confines of VR and reach out to a broader audience. Astro’s Playroom may not be the deepest or most ambitious game on PS5, but its humor and playfulness are just delightful. Every function and feature of the controller gets a little time in the spotlight. Pervasive and distinct rumble effects steal the show, from the tiny sensation of Astro’s footsteps to thundering moments like an Indiana Jones-style boulder chase. The triggers offer resistance as you charge your jumps in a frog suit or operate the levers on a toy machine. Sliding your finger across the touchpad lets you direct your movement as you roll around in a ball.
In-between the D-Pad lights described above is a camera on a hemisphere. This is taken from the PlayStation Eye for PS3, which is itself unlockable in the Bot Beach level of Cooling Springs. Several of the game’s Trophies reference taglines for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. These include “It Only Does Everything” and “Welcome to the Third Place” (PS3), and “Greatness Awaits” and “For the Players” (PS4).
While most boss trophies are straightforward‚ some may demand precise timing and strategy. These challenges add excitement and depth to the game‚ making trophy completion a rewarding experience. Astro once again controls really well in this game although our adorable robot friend doesn’t have as deep a move set as a certain plumber does. Astro can jump, punch enemies, and perform a spin attack but that’s about it for the main move set. That was never a problem though as the game is constantly introducing new things for you to use to show off that controller and it feels really good all the way through. Every level has you trying to reach the goal at the end while collecting gold coins along the way.
Either way, most guides are from when it came out, and a lot more people have a PS5 now. Those that haven’t played it have been tempted to give it a go with a second installment being announced, so an updated guide will be helpful to quite a few I would imagine. As the PlayStation pack-in title for the PlayStation 5, Astro’s Playroom is a short and masterful experience. While it was originally just a tech demo for the DualSense, it offers a colorful and expertly crafted platforming game to tie in all of that controller’s features.
In the Labo Room will be three Bots cheering on another Bot using a dance mat. This references Dance Dance Revolution, a popular arcade game developed by Konami that was ported to the PS1 in 1999 exclusively in Japan. The game came bundled with a dance mat, but could also be played using a controller. One of the rewards in the Gacha game is a Bot playing with two Move Controllers and a PS VR headset. The movement of the Move Controllers are incredibly similar to 2019’s Beat Saber on PS4 by Beat Games. Beat Saber is one of the premiere games of PS VR, alongside Astro Bot Rescue Mission.
Then hold down the Square button to attack the plant that sprouts with a spinning move, causing it to grow so you can climb up the CD leaves. There are 4 Special Bots to find in Astro’s Playroom, each located in a different world. Holding the square for a long while will charge a special rotating attack. Astro then for a few seconds begins to rotate and hit everything in reach. If you have only unlocked one or two in Astro’s Playroom, they will appear here individually, meaning you can return and get the rest when you are ready. When you are ready to unlock them, approach their locations in the Crash Site hub.

It’s also the first PlayStation controller to have textured analog sticks and monochrome face button symbols (preceded by the PSP and Vita handhelds). Finally, the controller also has a built-in microphone so that it can be used for game and party chats. Codenamed Project Neo, the PlayStation 4 was the first mid-generation hardware revision that added significant amounts of power compared to earlier models. It used custom hardware that supported streamlined rendering techniques for better performance, or increased resolutions via checkerboard rendering. Curiously, playback of Ultra-HD Blu-Rays would not appear until the PlayStation 5. This redesign also came with a branding refresh, switching from red to blue and adopting a new logo style similar to the PS2, both of which are still in use today.
Look Back: What We Said About Astro Bot Rescue Mission
Once you get to the very top of Mt. Motherboard, on the right you can see a Bot in a white cloak fighting against the wind. The character is a White Cloak, unlocked by finding all the Symbols in the game, and the struggle against the snow refers to the famous snowstorm finale. After defeating the stone dragon boss and reaching the start of Mt. Motherboard, look to the left to spot two fighters, one victorious over the other. The scene depicts the canon ending of the game, where Kazuya Mishima is victorious over his father Heihachi. At the second Checkpoint, look left to spot a giant white robot with a rock club, and a Bot with a sword and tunic on a tiny pinnacle in front of him.
In Astro’s Playroom, the player has to complete 4 main locations divided into 4 levels. To collect all the collectibles, you will also need to walk around the main location – the CPU Plaza. PlayStation Labo lets you complete the collection by drawing prizes in a Gatcha-style game. This Astro’s Playroom guide and walkthrough is a compendium of knowledge. With our tips, you will be able to complete every stage of the game. We will also help you find all the collectibles required for the platinum trophy.
The PS5’s Pulse headset is a headset designed to use 3D audio with PS4 and PS5 games that support it, allowing for sounds to be heard as if all around the player, similar to a surround sound system. It also features two microphones that can cancel out background noises, and still has a 3.5mm jack to use as a standard headset. The PS VR Processor Unit was a box that both the PlayStation 4 and PSVR connected to. It enabled Social Screen video output to the TV, which meant it adjusted the VR headset’s display so that it was viewable on a television. This also allowed it to be used with asymmetrical multiplayer modes such as those used in The Playroom VR, and handles normal 2D content. A revised version of the Processor Unit allowed for HDR passthrough, which was a feature added to all PS4s via firmware.
