With many different voices on display at IGN — both from punk toto current and former contributors — it isn’t feasible that every opinion will magically line up (pending the development of hive-mind technology). A reviewer of a sequel to a game that came out a decade ago, for example, shouldn’t be beholden to the score a previous reviewer gave the original because that was the view of a different person in a different time and place. Basically, we don’t want review scores to end the discussion, but to encourage more of them, and we want you to interact with our reviewers throughout the entirety of the process in a smart, courteous, and passionate way.
Outer Wilds encourages you to hop into your spaceship and go wherever you want – or just stay on your home planet and see what’s happening there. Should you feel lost or need a hint on what to do next, all of your activities and progress are saved to your ship’s log, which helpfully tells you when there’s still more to discover in an area. The only thing limiting your curiosity is time, but even that can sometimes be your ally. There’ve been many games that have attempted to evoke RE4’s style over the years, but none that nailed it quite as well as this.
Your down-and-out detective is thrust into circumstances where you must solve a murder, but as with all great stories it’s not the conclusion that is solely gratifying, but the journey through a ludicrously detailed world and cast of characters you took to get there. It’s all supported by some of the best writing seen in a game to date, and playing Disco Elysium feels entirely fresh and pretty much unlike anything else you’ll have experienced on PC (or anywhere else) in any era, let alone this one. The problem is, at this time, there just isn’t a ton to do once you’ve crafted a ship and begun sailing around. There are clusters of islands scattered here and there, but you only need to visit a handful of them to get the materials you need and unlock the upgrades required to progress. People burnt out on WoW get it, people tired of shooting men get it. Whenever a given tile is dark, a monster can spawn on it, and at night, there are hundreds of them. Spiders are low and wide, can climb vertical surfaces, and tend to jump right in your face while hissing. Zombies are slow melee oppressors, walking in a straight line towards you and able to hop over short, one-block-high obstacles. Endermen are tall, teleporting nasties who only get angry when you look at them. They’re scattered infrequently throughout the night, and each requires careful attention to dispatch when you’re unarmed.

Instead, I decided to spare his life for a new lead and extra goodies… then I killed him anyway so I could double-dip on rewards from the original quest-giver. Later, I performed a triple cross by revealing the murder to somebody I’d been begged to hide it from for yet more benefits. “It’s up to you” is the philosophy at the heart of Atomfall. Once you exit the bunker, leaving a grateful/dead scientist behind you (but not a Grateful Dead scientist), you have no guidance on what to do next. No on-screen text providing instruction, no waypoint telling you where to go, and no NPC imploring you to follow them.
While it retains some of its predecessor’s flaws, that’s part of the charm. Rooms that you’ll have passed through literally 100 times will be revealed to hold incredible secrets once a certain clue has been deciphered. An easy example of this might be if you’re looking to light a candle, to do so you’d need to combine the Metal Detector and a Magnifying Glass.
The Cyberpunk of today is a sharper, more focused action-RPG with a greater variety of skills that let you navigate Night City your own way. The Phantom Liberty expansion received a 10/10 in our review, adding new systems and a compelling new story featuring Idris Elba. Best of all, it’s still a gorgeous showpiece for your PC rig. Dressing my Zoi was made even more fun thanks to the crafting menu, which let me adjust individual cuts, hems, and sleeve lengths to create the exact piece I wanted. But just because the game leans towards basics doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of trendier pieces, accessories, and custom-made outfits that add more flair.

This is the definitive version of what was already a deep and engrossing narrative RPG. Diablo 4 was already a well-crafted dungeon-crawling RPG, but it got a whole lot bigger with the addition of its first major expansion, Vessel of Hatred. The expansion adds a lengthy new story chapter picking up right where the main campaign left off, detailing the creeping influence of Mephisto. While the expansion comes alongside a host of changes and improvements to the core game and leveling structure, many of them available to all players with or without the expansion, the major centerpiece of Vessel of Hatred is the new Spiritborn class. The powerful new melee class focuses on swift strikes that smoothly combo into each other, from a variety of disciplines that can be mixed-and-matched. Destiny 2 has been going strong for years, but with the release of The Final Shape, the first major story arc has reached its conclusion.
Delightful, wisecracking characters bring excitement and intrigue to this fantastically quirky corner of the universe. I wanted to punch the guy and shove him down a hill the second he showed up onscreen. Money and ancient relics (that Indy is ostensibly returning to their rightful homes) are liberally scattered among the tasteful environment clutter and in all sorts of secret chambers or other nooks and crannies. I found a Thief-like appeal to waiting until guards’ backs were turned to hoover up everything worth taking.
